YT28型凿岩机的使用范围较广，最适用于在中硬或坚硬（f=8~18）岩石上钻凿水平和倾斜炮孔，也可垂直向上钻凿顶板上的锚杆孔。炮孔直径一般为34~42毫米，有效经济的钻孔深度可达5米。本机既可以根据巷道断面大小与FT160BD型短气腿、FT160BC型长气腿或FT160S型双级气腿配套使用，也可以装在钻车或钻架上工作。

本机配有透明壳体的FY200B型注油器，便于观察油面、调节油量，以保证良好的润滑。
